DESCRIPTION

Catawba native and artisan, Cindy George, adorned this dreamcatcher with beautiful, feathers and small beads to truly make this piece "pop".

Many tribes make dreamcatchers. There are several different interpretations about dream catchers depending on the tribe or region where the tribe is from.  The Plains Indians have a belief that says that you are to hang them by the window or at the head of your bed.  The bad dreams get caught in the web.  The good dreams work their way through the hole in the center, rest on the feather like a dew drop, and evaporate to the Great Spirit in the morning sun.  The prayer beads on the Dreamcatcher trap all the bad dreams that are left on the web.  The prayer beads then burn them up.

Another Native lore about the dreamcatcher is the bad dreams will be caught in the spider like webbing and will disappear when the sun light hits them in the morning. The good dreams pass through the openings in the web and are caught on the sun’s rays  as they travel through the webbing. When the sun’s rays hit the sleeping person's  face they are then able to remember the god dreams when they are awakened by the bright morning sun light.
